Rancho San Antonia park

Rancho San Antonia park

Date/Time:  Saturday October 13, 2012, 13:15 – 16:30
Place: Rancho San Antonio Park at Cupertino.

Description
After initial climbing for 15 minutes on broad road, take Coyote trail, then turn to Wild Cat Loop. Before reaching High Meadow Trail, there is about 0.6 miles climbing on zigzaging  trail. Though the grade is more than 1000 feet, the climbing is not strenuous. From High Meadow Trail, we’ll branch into Upper Wild Cat Canyon Trail, then back to Wild  Cat loop. Then there is option, instead of taking Coyote trail, of trying P.G. & E trail where some more climbing is required, in particular the last stretch before reaching the plateau can be quite demanding. Either way the total length is a bit over 7 miles.  The trails are 80% shaded under oak and bay trees, 20% open.

Direction
Hwy 280, exit Foothill Expressway, right turn (direction 280 south) or left turn (280 north); 1st traffic light, right turn to Cristo Rey Drive, after 0.8 miles, at a small panel marking Rancho San Antonio Park on the right side, turn left into park parking.

Meeting place
Once into the park, follow the road rightward, passing the 1st and 2nd parking, the road goes downward towards the 3rd parking. Park your car. This is the only parking where restrooms are available. If you arrive after we leave, please take a map of the park and find our itinerary:Coyote trail->Wild Cat Loop->High Meadow Trail->Upper Wild Cat Canyon Trail->Wild Cat Loop->Coyotae Trail. To find the trail head, you take the road going to the equestrian parking from your parking site, cross a wood bridge and take the road climbing upward.
